The annual Donor Thank you function is an opportunity for St Mark’s to personally thank our most valued supporters for the important role they play in the success of the College.
This year’s function, which specifically acknowledged those who had made donations in 2014, was held on Tuesday 3rd February in the Master’s Garden. Hosted by the Master of the College, Ms Rose Alwyn, the reception gave donors the opportunity to meet with each other as well as Board members and senior students of St Mark’s.
In addressing the function, the Master made particular note of the highly successful East Wing Project campaign, led by Appeal Chairman Mr Bruce Debelle AO, had raised significant funds for the fit-out of the new East Wing building. The East Wing will be officially opened by His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AO, Governor of South Australia on 1st March 2015.
The generosity of donors in providing financial support for scholarships and bursaries was also acknowledged, with over $200,000 awarded in 2014. These philanthropic gifts enable the College to offer financial support to students from a wide variety of backgrounds, adding intellectual and cultural strength to the College community.
Great support of the annual giving campaign in 2014 also contributed significantly to the living and study environment of St Mark’s students. These include the library fund, donations to the music room and preservation of unique and historically significant items such as the Dining Hall and High Table chairs.
The Master acknowledged the College’s commitment to providing an holistic approach to realising the academic and personal potential of all its students: “they bring us inspiration and a sense of purpose, and they go on after graduation prepared and determined to build a better world .. I also know that, without you, very little of this would be possible. Thank you on behalf of those who have enjoyed the benefit of your generosity.”
