Celebrating 50 Years
This year the major focus of our Annual Giving program is to upgrade The Archibald Grenfell Price Hall to celebrate its 50 Year Anniversary.
The Archibald Grenfell Price Hall was built in 1961 and today comfortably seats 270 people. A unique tradition at St Mark's is Formal Hall, which continues to take place four evenings each week during the academic term. Formal Hall promotes a strong sense of community with all the members of the College dining together. Over 50 years more than six million meals have been served.
In its time, The Archibald Grenfell Price Hall has had minor cosmetic work in addition to the recent replacement of the floor (in late 2010), the replacement of the chairs and tables and painting of the walls on a number of occasions.
Developing for the Future
On this significant anniversary, we are asking the St Mark's College community to support the upgrade of this important building by making a contribution to The Archibald Grenfell Price Hall 50 Year Anniversary Fund.
The major projects that are planned to be undertaken in the next 12 months are:
- The refurbishment of the entrance foyer which includes retiling of both the foyer and bathroom and refitting of the bathroom with new hardware and lighting.
- The installation of ducted air conditioning and external screening on the windows of the north elevation which will have a significant effect on the comfort of dining for students.
- The installation of fully integrated, state of the art audio visual including a microphone system, music player/computer link, speakers mounted around the hall and mounted data projectors linked to retractable screens.
These works will enhance the attractiveness of the Hall for functions, both for the College and for external use when it is hired to outside parties.
