Storming ahead.....going green
St Mark’s Storm Water Re-use System
The project involves the capture of stormwater from buildings on site at St Mark’s College, the Society of Friends (Quakers) Meeting House and the St Peter’s Cathedral Deanery.

An underground tank with a 58,000 litre capacity will be used to store the water which will then be used for irrigation in the area. This will not only ensure the survival of the significant trees on the property but also stabilise the soil surrounding the state and local heritage buildings, Downer House and Walkley Cottage.
As a back-up, the College will connect to the Glenelg Adelaide Parklands (GAP) pipeline, which will enable the tank to be topped up with recycled water when necessary.
A new irrigation system will be installed also, to allow for the use of both supplies of water. A meter will be installed to show how much stormwater is collected. This will be displayed for the College community to see.
The project is at the top end of the Green Cathedral Precinct Project which aims to improve the quality of stormwater entering the Torrens Lake through a wetland system.
The tank system will play a vital role in allowing the College to filter its water with excess runoff which will be of higher quality than currently provided.
