Downer House Verandah Restoration Project
From 1956 until 1999 a total of 153 Collegians experienced one or more years in the magnificent building, first occupied by Sir John Downer, who lived there until his death in 1915. The College bought the property (designed by Rowland Rees) in 1924 and in the College's first year (1925) all students, together with the Master and Mrs Price occupied the house.
In 1946, the second Master, Mr. Bob Lewis and his wife Betty took up occupancy. As the College has grown, students no longer live in Downer House, yet it is still the centre of daily (and nightly) activity!
Work on the restoration of the Downer House verandah has commenced and it is estimated that it will cost $50,000. We have received funds from the Adelaide City Council Heritage Grant of $10,000 to kick-start the project and with a further $31,000 from donations already received, we are well on the way to meeting our target.
A cocktail party was held on Sunday 24th May for supporters of the project.
If you would like to make a tax deductible donation towards this project please download the donation form here.
