Accommmodation

All students have their own study bedrooms, furnished with carpet, curtains (or blinds), overhead light, bed, desk, cupboard and clothes drawers. Students may bring their own bed linen or have it provided and changed by the College at an extra fee of $27.50 per week (incl. GST). All rooms have telephones with a voice mail facility. All rooms have secure locks with individual smart cards for entry and door chains.

There are eleven separate residential buildings in the College and rooms therefore vary in size and location. About two thirds of the rooms open on to corridors with shared bathrooms, utility rooms and laundries located along those corridors. 40% of the rooms are grouped in 2, 3 or 4 bedroom flats with lounge and bathroom facilities.  The College has 37 apartments.

New students have rooms allocated to them, whilst returning students may apply for specific rooms or shared apartments..

Library:

The large library contains a collection of major reference works, textbooks, general works, and university examination papers; reference works on CD Rom; computerised catalogue and an on-line link to all South Australian university libraries. Books can be borrowed and there is a special fiction section for recreational reading. Open 24 hours per day.

Computers: Every room is equipped with a Sun Ray desk-top appliance, key board and mouse linked to a central server. This provides a standard desktop for an internal and external e-mail service, and connection with the Universities and the Internet. Students can access their files from any appliance in the College 24 hours a day. There is also a central computer room with a number of PCs, a high performance laser printer, zip drive and scanner and access to the College network. This is available at no additional cost. There is access to the University, and e-mail. Internet access may be charged in 2008 at competitive commercial rates..

Drafting Room:

Two drawing boards, a slide viewing table and an Apple computer are available for use by architectural, engineering, art and design students 24 hours per day.

Academic Tutors:

The primary aim for all students in the College should be to do well in their studies.  If any student feels in need of further assistance, the College will do what it can to supplement the tuition provided by tertiary institutions.

Tutorials in a range of subjects are held in the library on a weekly/as needs basis.  Tutorial assistance is included in the fees structure.

Education Committee:

The Education Committee is a formal academic body, and in keeping with its role, students appearing before it are required to wear their academic gowns.  However, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed.  Students are expected to speak frankly about their academic progress as well as their feelings regarding life at College.  Returning students whose academic results have not met the College’s expectations are non an academic contract and may also be required to appear before the Committee.

Students experiencing difficulties with their courses should not hesitate to consult any member of the Education Committee at any time throughout the year.  In addition first year students will find that there are usually senior students at the College studying similar courses who will be pleased to help in whatever way they are able.   This informal assistance is an extremely valuable part of College Life.

Floor Tutors:

Floor tutors have the responsibility of providing care and assistance to students of the College in Hawker Annex, Newland and Memorial Buildings.  Their primary tasks are to be available to help other students in the proximity of their rooms and to see that behaviour is in accordance with the rules of the College.  They are a first point of contact for personal and academic problems and can advise students on the existing support structures within the college.

Sport:

The College Club organises teams in a variety of sports each year to compete in the inter-College competition.  Competition for the High Table Cup is very spirited.  A large number of students become involved both as players and spectators.  Competitions are held in swimming, tennis, cricket, debating, netball, volleyball, table tennis, basketball, soccer, hockey, Australian Rules football and athletics.  In some categories there is a separate men’s and women’s event.

There is also an inter-College debating competition and within the College there are also competitions in debating pool and table tennis, chess and golf.
